Food Foraging Meadow

Clients inherited a once potato farm that had been allowed overgrow with mostly invasive species. Careful removals under the watchful eye of the conservation commission, as the site lies within a 100′ wetland buffer, revealed butternut and walnut trees. We created a guild with these existing site trees as anchor species, using principles from Forest Gardening to attract a wide range of wildlife and beneficial insects. A rich species mix was seeded and planted and is carefully managed with mowing twice a year, at times that do not disrupt ground-nesting birds. The rich mix is alight with birds and ever-changing blooms, textures, and leaf colors.
